Most of the martial arts, maybe all of them, were created as a way of self defense, manly military self defense.Their methods were very effective, of course, but at the time they were developed. Nowadays we live in a completely different reality, with other kinds of violence, no honor at all and a huge variety of weapons. Self defense is just a way to get rid of the violence we may be submitted to, so, fighting is not the answer, at least in the majority of cases. Running may be a kind of self defense, for example. The idea is to avoid the violence. The best trick of self defense is to know how to avoid the violence, having smart habits and attention. When the prevention fails, then we must know how to act, and act is a good word, because as a matter of fact, we must pretend to be weak to react, otherwise the aggressor will be aware of our dangerousness and he or she (or them) will act first and harder. It´s also important to understand that react is not really good in most of the situations, unless your life is in risk. It does not worthwhile risking your life to avoid a robbery. Your car is less valuable than you life. The same applies to your wallet, watch, etc. The point is : KNOWLEDGE IS EVERYTHING. Knowing what to do, when to do, even the best option is doing nothing. BE ALWAYS alert AND PRESERVE YOU LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE YOU LOVE. |

Ya I believe he is right. The aim of self defence is to save ourselves. For that what is needed should be done. Fight is always not the choice, yet is a good factor increasing ur confidence if u know better & also acts great as last weapon to save ourselves.
I'd always prefer to play some mind trick before fighting if it gets me out of trouble. . .
